Thomas Brown

Owner
When Thomas filed his first tax return, something clicked.

Self-preparing taxes came naturally to him, but when one of his close family members got a lien on her bank account for back taxes, the situation stuck with Thomas. To this day, he helps others make sure their taxes are filed on time and accurate, so they won’t receive letters from the IRS or have them take a lien on anyone’s bank account.

After becoming a bookkeeper for his family’s businesses, Thomas was hired by the previous owner of Abacus Tax & Books. He became a partner in the company in 2018.

Thomas became the full owner of Abacus Tax & Books when he bought the business on Jan. 1, 2022. With 15 years of bookkeeping experience and five years of tax preparation expertise, Thomas serves as the main tax preparer at Abacus Tax & Books. His favorite part of running the business is helping his clients with tax planning and strategy, including navigating any complicated parts of tax returns to maximize deductions.

Thomas resides in Charlotte, North Carolina, with his wife, Catherine, and their daughter, Mary. The couple is expecting another child in June.

Abby Pellicone

Administrative Assistant and Bookkeeper
If you call Abacus Tax & Books, you’ll likely start talking with Abby on the phone. As both an administrative assistant and bookkeeper, she sets up appointments and helps with clients’ books.

After being a CNA for eight years and working in case management, Abby joined Thomas’s team in 2022. She enjoys her role in completing clients’ books and quickly taking care of tasks behind the scenes.

She and her husband, Chris, reside in York, South Carolina. In her free time, she likes to work out and go hiking.

Debbie Richard

Tax Preparer and Bookkeeper
In her role as tax preparer and bookkeeper, Debbie enjoys connecting with her clients and helping them navigate the tax world.

In 2013, she started her career in tax preparation by working part-time for a CPA in Charlotte while attending UNC-Charlotte to complete her bachelor’s degree. From 2013-2020, she worked for Abacus Tax & Books’ previous owner. She returned to join Thomas’s team in 2022.

Debbie currently works part-time during the year but helps the team in a full-time capacity amid tax seasons. When she’s not doing tax returns, you can find her visiting her three adult children and two grandchildren or reading a good book.
